Shakira and Gerard Pique have a special connection to the World Cup. In fact, they are together because of it.
The Colombian songstress and the Spanish soccer star met at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He was there playing for the Spanish national team, and she was there to sing the official song for the tournament.
They went public in March of 2011, when Shakira put the confirmation on Twitter and Facebook.
The 10-year age difference — she’s 37 and he’s 27 — doesn’t seem to matter to the couple.
As Pique and his teammates take on Chile on June 18, let’s celebrate the couple.

It’s funny, when I made those comments, it was really in a lighthearted, humorous way. I was surprised to see that it was taken so seriously in the press. Since Shakira’s a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, they collaborated with the organization to host a virtual baby shower, which enabled people to give a gift to babies in need.
Shakira and Pique made this statement:
To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations.
